Aquascape Garden Pond. Skip the uncontrolled algae bloom.
The stress-free pond purified by Aquascape Ecosystem™. Built by Sweden's Aquascape™ Team. Anywhere in Europe.
The nicer the weather, the uglier the garden pond?
Most garden ponds feel like a great investment the first summer. But then nutrients build up… And by the second summer, you can no longer see the bottom through the algae bloom.
Sunny family days get eaten up by increasing maintenance — expensive algae treatments, tedious skimming and foul-smelling drain-outs.
But green, murky water no longer has to be part of the lifestyle…
An Aquascape Ecosystem™ Pond designed by BÄCKAHÄSTEN only becomes more beautiful and easier to maintain over time.
We call it SagaPond.
A garden pond built by Sweden's Aquascape™ Team

A handbuilt ecosystem with bubbling waterfalls, lush aquatic plants and healthy fish.
"I would highly recommend them if you're looking for a unique pond. The team was a pleasure to work with. Just do it – you won't regret it."

The garden pond that prevents algae bloom
In regular garden ponds nutrients have nowhere to go. Phosphorus and nitrate build up over time, like an over-fertilised lake in miniature. All it takes is a warm day for algae to take off.
We are trained in Aquascape Ecosystem™ which prevents algae bloom from every angle at once.
How an Aquascape Ecosystem™ Pond works
- Collection (Skimmer) — A strong pump sucks in and captures debris that's blown in before it can sink and decompose into algae food. The water is then sent onward.
- Neutralisation (IonGen) — On the way to the filtration, the water is treated with copper ions that bind to algae cell membranes and prevent cell division.
- Filtration (BioFalls) — Heavier particles are caught in a Swirl Chamber while a filter mat catches smaller ones. Here, bacteria convert organic matter into plant nutrition.
- Oxygen & movement (streams, waterfalls & jets) — On the way back the water is oxygenated. Oxygen supports key bacteria while movement prevents dead zones where algae could take hold.
- Biological purification (regeneration zones) — Currents feed strategic regeneration zones that capture nutrients like phosphorus and nitrate before algae can use them.
- Balancing (Autodoser) — Automatic dosing of a special blend of essential bacterial strains that complement the living cycle.
Your role in the ecosystem
Unlike a regular garden pond, an Aquascape Ecosystem™ Pond does most of it itself.
Ongoing: empty the skimmer after feeding the fish, remove wilted leaves when you pass, prune when you feel like it. Seasonal: backwash the filter (early spring), clear plants (late autumn).
Don't want to lift a finger? We offer ongoing maintenance or annual service as an add-on.
Even easier over time
Year one: before the ecosystem establishes, some algae bloom may occur — especially around streams and waterfalls. This is completely normal and doesn't affect the fish. Year two: the young ecosystem has established, and the system can take care of itself. Occasional algae are part of a natural ecosystem.
We adapt your garden pond to Nordic conditions by frost-proofing and insulating pipes and pump housings. The water keeps bubbling in winter with lower electricity consumption.
That's why 100,000+ have already chosen Aquascape Ecosystem™.
The perfect garden pond for your fish
Aquascape Ecosystem™ efficiently converts organic matter into nitrate that is quickly absorbed by plants. The water stays clean and oxygen-rich so you don't have to disturb the fish with nets and algae treatments.
Water lilies and fish caves offer natural hiding places. In return, the fish take care of the pond. They eat mosquito larvae before they become mosquitoes. Algae before they become problems. And organic matter before it sinks to the bottom.
The result is an even easier-to-maintain garden pond.
Pond-o-nomics: An investment in quality time
The investment in an Aquascape Ecosystem™ Pond is about 20 % higher than a comparable garden pond. But you get to keep your quality time.
365 days of bubbling
The pond can run year-round without risking the fish. Electricity consumption adapts to the season. A regular garden pond usually requires winter storage since they often freeze over.
Up to 90 % less maintenance
All you have to do is empty the skimmer, skim occasional leaves and top up the autodoser now and then. Nature does the rest. A regular garden pond demands endless skimming, algae treatments, filter changes and annual drain-outs.
Around 80 % lower expenses
No algae treatments or costly phosphorus filter changes. The running cost is essentially just autodoser refills. A regular garden pond can require jugs of algae treatment during peak season.
Rainwater harvesting = combine utility with enjoyment
An optional Rainwater Harvesting System captures rain from roof and paved surfaces and stores it in an underground reservoir. The rainwater becomes part of the self-cleansing cycle and can be used for automatic top-up, irrigation and emergencies.
Did you know? Just 25 mm of rain on a 185 m² roof yields 4,700 litres. According to SMHI, typical annual precipitation in Sweden varies between 500–800 mm — the same roof can collect 90,000–150,000 litres per year.
From the world's largest "garden pond" to your garden
In 2019 our project lead took part in building what would become the world's largest nature pool: Lake Gkula in Woodford, Australia. 12 million litres of naturally filtered water without chemicals — made possible by Aquascape Ecosystem™. Sustainable Landscape Award 2020.
"We know Lake Gkula will be an attraction; it's that beautiful."
— Bill Hauritz, Founder of Woodfordia
Now you can also get a garden pond from the Aquascape™ Team with an award-winning portfolio.

Questions & Answers
How much does a garden pond cost?
Our garden ponds start at €28,000 (Well, 2.5×3 m). The price varies depending on size, depth and number of waterfalls.
How long does construction take?
A typical pond takes 2–4 weeks to build, depending on size and complexity.
Do I need a building permit?
Typically no, but regulations vary by municipality.
How much maintenance is required?
Minimal. The ecosystem handles most of it. Skim leaves, prune plants and backwash the filter seasonally.
Can I have fish?
Absolutely. Aquascape ponds are designed to keep fish like koi and goldfish healthy and happy.
Can I have koi?
Yes. Aquascape Ecosystem™ Pond is designed to keep koi healthy with biological filtration and oxygenation.
How do you avoid algae?
Aquascape Ecosystem™ creates a constant nutrient deficit through biological filtration, strategic planting and oxygenation — algae are starved out without chemicals.
Will there be mosquito problems?
No. Moving water and fish that eat mosquito larvae mean mosquitoes don't thrive.
How large does the plot need to be?
Our smallest package needs around 7.5 m² but the shape can be adapted freely to your garden.
Does the pond work in winter?
Yes. The system is designed for Nordic conditions and runs year-round.
